The historical commemoration, which is celebrated on the second Sunday of July, commemorates an event which took place in July 1602, when Provveditore (Superintendent) Gerolamo Capello, for the first time, hoisted the flag of the “Serenissima” Republic of Venice, on the mast of a gallion in the centre of the Place d’Arme.
